This morning in Indianapolis a school bus collided with another vehicle resulting in a fatality. The driver of a Ford Focus swerved into the path of the school bus causing the bus to jump a curb and end up in the front yard of a nearby residence. The driver of the auto died from injuries due to the collision. The accident occurred on a narrow strip of North Keystone which has been known for large potholes.

School bus safety has been a national debate for many years.  According to the National Association of State Directors of Pupil Transportation Services, 450,000 buses carry over 24 million students daily. There is rarely a fatality involving a student on a bus, but it does occur. The FMVSS has issued 36 standards involving school bus safety. One of the most debated issues is the use of restraints or seat belts. In lieu of seat belts, the school bus industry builds much safer buses and tries to incorporate the restraint safety issue in the better design.

Tom Hastings of the Hastings Law Firm has successfully settled on a case involving a school bus accident. Tom is a member of top 100 of The American Trial Lawyers Association and a member of the Better Business Bureau.
