On March 5th of this year I posted a blog about defective products and the recalls from the Consumer Product Safety Commission. Another major recall was posted by the CPSC yesterday for the Shrek glasses being sold at McDonalds around the country. The glasses in question have a high level of a chemical (cadmium) that can pose heath risks to those using the glasses for an extended period of time. I periodically check the CPSC website and find recalls posted on a daily basis.
The most recent recalls that would involve a fire hazard are mattresses distributed by IKEA and dishwashers manufactured by Maytag.
The mattresses manufactured in Mexico, violate the federal open flame standard (16 CFR Part 1633). It was reported on the CPSC website that no burn injuries have been reported to date for the past 3 years the mattresses have been sold. This is not the first recall of an IKEA product. In 2009, a sofa bed mattress was recalled for the same fire hazard. On the other hand, the Maytag dishwashers being recalled have had multiple reports of fires causing extensive damage.
The Hastings Law Firm of Indianapolis advises you to keep a close watch on the Consumer Product Safety Commission on all posted recalls. If you or a loved one has been burned or injured because of a faulty product, contact the Hastings Law Firm.
