Crane accident injures three

A construction accident in Downtown Indianapolis this morning caused injury to three workers. Two of the workers were taken to an Indianapolis area hospital with minor injuries. The accident was caused when a crane gave way and crashed into a historic restaurant during some renovation. The restaurant, The Athenaeum, was built in 1894 during a German renaissance revival period and has been the home of many German cultural organizations.

Construction accidents are way too common and this accident is under investigation by IOSHA. In July of this year OSHA just finished an update on crane and derrick operations. This newly released information can be found on OSHA’s website under crane and derricks. A report from a crane accident website stated in 2009, there were 303 crane accidents reported with 197 fatalities.
